Do more than just count
Have you visited a website lately and seen a hit counter lurking at the bottom of the page. Or perhaps you have one on your site?
Why do you want to advertise to your visitors how many hits you’ve had on your company website? Surely that information is for your eyes only. Of course, these hit counters allows you set the counter at whatever figure you wish but it all adds up to a poor and outdated ways of gathering statistical information about visitors to your website.
Often these site counters either come with a monthly fee or you have to put up with adverts on your site, diminishing your brand and encouraging users to click away from your website.
Enter Google Analytics, a compeltely free website statistics software which tells you an incredible amount about your website including how many visitors have visited your website in a particular period, where they came from, how long they stayed on your site, what pages they viewed and many other pieces of valuable information.
Google Analytics is easy to set up on your website. You simply add a piece of code to the bottom of every page on your sites and there are straightforward instructions provided during the setup procedure.
The information that Google Analytics cans provide you about your website, it’s visitors and their behaviour during their visit is invaluable because it helps you make educated and strategic decisions to improve conversions and loyalty.
So I’ve used Google Analytics and it’s presented me with all this information about my website and it’s visitors but what does the information really mean and what do I do now to make improvements and enhancements?
